Suggestions?

Friday, April 20, 2007

As you might imagine, we are working on some updates to improve novlet and we are planning to update it very soon. Even if we are developing some features that you might like, no one but you can tell us what we can improve and what we should focus on.

For this reason, we would really appreciate if you would let us know about any suggestion, criticism or advice using this form or leaving a comment below this message.

Thank you,
 alex and  casta

Oops, no comments here? It looks like most of our early users are Italian.

Hi, alex and casta.

Novlet is a great idea! It reminds me of many efforts done before, such as Borges short stories about endless books, and Cortázar's novel "Hopscotch".
The only thing I missed here, to broad the non-linear experience that internet can support, is the possibility to add hyperlinks to words in the passages.

For example:

In a science fiction story, someone presents a device called "plasmodic megacrossistor" (yucky!), and forgets to explain what this thing is/or does. So, someone decides to create a hyperlink, and add a passage defining it; or, add in a story a kind of parentesis, or another story inside the story through a word in a passage.

Was the suggestion clear?

The suggestion is crystal clear.

We think it is a great idea, as it could add a whole new dimension to the stories.
Actually we were thinking about a wiki-like set of pages to allow users to add more information to stories characters, settings and so on.

We plan to add this feature along with some others in the near future, but we have to fix some minor issues before (have you noticed that there is currently no way to reset your password in case you forget it? :P).

Thank you very much for your suggestion, don't hesitate to write us again if you think something else.

Hello, Alex and Casta.

Did you receive the suggestion I sent via the contact form some time ago?

Thank you.

Hello vdepizzol,
we received your message, and we really appreciated it: we plan to include the idea you suggested to the features we will be implementing in the upcoming version of Novlet.
Actually, we even replied to it on July 9, using the email address you entered in the form. (The message subject was "Re: Contact from vdepizzol (youremailaddress)".) We just sent you another copy of the email, however :).

For the curious ones, vdepizzol suggested that

"The user, by creating a part of a story, could set some guidelines, which would help next writers. For example, in my story, I want a clue to be explained in a future chapter, or a character that reappears in a flashback.

It would work like further information about things and people that readers don't know yet but the writers need to know in order to keep the consistence of the plot."

Thank you very much!

A couple of other genres would be my suggestion.

I would also include:

thriller/espionage
sport
Action/adventure Yarn
Western

Hello SeeArc!
We think it would be a great idea. We'd also love to decide with all of you which genres we should add.
We are now working on a forums section, that we hope to upload very soon: we could use it to discuss about that.

Note also that one of the earlier versions of Novlet had a label/tag system that could be used to add other information to stories and passage (possibly sub-genres). We could finish that too to give more freedom to passage authors.

hey alex and casta,
it would be nice if you add an area where other users can talk and a story-sharing system so we can work in a group.

Hi, nice idea. I can't find a way to do italics, so I'm just using txt standard /em/ things, but that would be nice to have. Probably other similar things too.

Hi
Love the site. I think it would be great if you, as the author of a story, could delete it. Especially if no one else had yet to contribute...

I would really like to see "Cyberpunk" "Steampunk" and "Superhero" as future genre's and sub-genres

I go with the idea of more genrs, I suggest to add this
Action, Thriller and Crime (why not), if you write something isn't Horror, and isn't Detective and isn't Fiction but something in the middle ¿where do you put it on?, Ok, I got something else to say, I'll like if the Stories section include an ordering option, to order by writer name, by writer experience, by date, by rating, by reads, by name and by genre.

And last, we need the option to leave messages to reader and/or writers (it's like the annotations done in the margin of a manuscript) it will be helpful if we say if we want the readers to see it (for example for the problem of making a definition) or is only for writers (or only for the author / editor, it could be used to keep trace of ideas, like the drafts since the draft is more likely a backup), now because they are annotations they could contain any hyperlink to other stories, users or specific passages.
