Novlet tips and guidelines

Creating new passages is not very different than writing anything else, there are just a few things you should keep in mind while writing on Novlet.

Be consistent
If you are not writing a new story, try to adopt the same style that was used in the previous passages.
For example, if you are continuing a first person story, please avoid switching to the third person narrative form (unless you have a good reason to do so, of course).
Besides this rather trivial example, there are a few things you should pay attention to, such as grammatical tenses and more subtle aspects, i.e. the way you introduce dialogues.
Not every passage should be a cliffhanger
It is not necessary that all passages contain plot twists or cliffhanger endings, on the contrary, part of a story's success could even originate from a good balance between slow- and fast-paced sections.
Even in most successful books there are paragraphs (some times entire chapters) written only to describe the setting or to connect the main plot events.
Therefore, don't worry if your passage does not allow the plot to progress that much: if you like what you have written, it is very probable that others will like it too.
Be careful when correcting passages
In general, we encourage you to correct your passages if that would result in an overall quality improvement. This means that you are welcome to edit passages to correct spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors, or to make stylistic improvements, but you must never alter the plot of the stories whose passages you are correcting.
We can't stress enough the importance of this aspect: other users could have written other passages (or have hidden drafts) after the one you are editing. If your corrections change the original plot, you might introduce inconsistencies between the updated passage and the existing ones.
Consider writing a new passage whenever you want to change something in the plot of existing stories.
In addition, some authors may not like if you make massive edits to their passages, so you might try suggesting them the modifications (by posting a comment or sending them a message, for example), rather than applying them without warning.
It's your turn

Now that you know everything that's needed to write new passages, why don't you go to the Stories section and unleash your fantasy?
