The pain laced his head like tight chain mail, piercing his temples like thorns. He felt the light now and it was constant. It forced his eyes open, squinting this time. It was brighter than the sun, but there were hazy shadows moving in the distance. And the sound – the awful ringing in his ears confirmed that he was in the center of an echo chamber.
