... I am to do and getting it done. And yet I remain as much in the dark as ever.
I wasn't sure at first, but then he repeated it loud and clear: "Find it!", he squawked, with as much urgency as a crow could muster. It was as if all this time, he had been trying to remember what he had come to say. Now I could only hope that he would go back to where he came from and learn more words.
I've decided to look into where to purchase those neck bands that are put on birds to track them. Perhaps the local Audubon society knows how to find some. I guess I'll have to pose as an avid bird watcher - I can't imagine that they'll exactly warm to my story.
Job done - a little research led me to a local nature conservancy, which gave me a bundle of the tags, along with logging any bird sightings. I'd read up on the process of tagging birds so that I could hold an intelligent and credible conversation without tipping my hand. I also found a pamphlet on securing the tag to the bird's neck - not an easy task for an untrained amateur.
I've decided to put a message along the lines of "Who are you?" and include an email address that I made up just for this purpose. Now I just have to wait until the bird comes back, and hope that I'm successful at tagging it.
